Many people believe that it is pertinent that we use both the arts and sciences when focusing on everything, they both need each other equally. Science is the literal meaning of things while art is more the creative side, but in order to expand on ideas and research different things, people need to think “outside the box”. Yo-Yo Ma presents a very interesting argument of how once we unite science and the arts we will have these amazing new ideas and cultures. In agreeance with this author Steven Pinker introduces the idea that everything in education is based off science and there needs to be a greater focus on the arts. Both these views show how without the arts science is limited and cannot be truly understood by people. The arts promote creative thinking and encourage unorthodox ideas. This type of thinking is important to think of new ideas. Through this way of thinking, partnered with science, the possibilities of new theories and cultures is endless.
To many people, science is the answer. This is the opposite of what Steven Pinker, author of “Science is not your Enemy” says. Pinker says how science is not always the answer and that society as a whole should not always looks down upon scientific advances. He recognizes that people will believe in religion and faith but says how there is no such thing because there is so much lacking evidence, scientific evidence to show that there is such thing as faith. One could say that Pinker is wrong and faith is a real thing and it is for society to rely on. He says how laws take into consideration science when making them… but we must not forget that we stand “one nation under god” or say “in god we trust”. Personally, I was raised religiously and would not change that for the world, it has helped me through a lot, even though I may never scientifically know if god is actually real. It’s important to realize that science can help with logistics and is very important to our society but we must remember faith and religion still plays a part in society and that can not be taken away from people. Many people rely on faith just as much as they rely on science.
